International Dance Day 2021 Street Dance

Street Dance is an umbrella term for various sub genres, such as, break dance, hip hop, and even jazz and commercial can incorporate street dance which simply put, means, outside of a studio. It's a grassroots genre. I have studied all forms of dance and danced throughout my life from an early age so I don't tend to compartmentalize the genres too rigidly. Often, I like to combine separate genres in my choreography which I studied during my A Level Dance and then took further because I was lucky enough to be able to use an university library. International Dance Day within Lesbian Visibility Week in 2022

Dance day has come and gone, stuck as it was in the middle of Lesbian Visibility Week which ends today. So this year, I'm going to combine the two and focus on lesbian visibility in dance. 🥳🎊🎉🎉🏳️‍🌈💃💃🏽💃🏿💃🏼🩰🥧🧁🍰🥂🍾🍹🍻 This year is the 40th anniversary of International Dance Day, first celebrated in 1982. The 29th of April was chosen in honour of Jean-Georges Noverre, founder of modern ballet, which is why my focus this year is on ballet in particular. 🩰 The combination of Lesbian Visibility and Dance Day raises the question: Where are the lesbian dancers, including classical ballet dancers, 🩰 modern ballet dancers, tap dancers, contemporary dancers and so on? I don't just mean those that have gone on to set up their own dance companies. Dance companies of all genres should be fully LGBTQIAPD+ inclusive 🏳️‍🌈 so LGBT+ dancers don't need to start their own company to work in a safe, inclusive environment. Today (29th October) is World Ballet Day so to celebrate I've written the first post for this blog and created a short video of me doing ballet en pointe. Here are a few pointe steps I've been working on and then put into a very short sequence for the purpose of this video so they form a mini-choreography rather than just an exercise. I particularly took a keen interest in choreographing various forms of dance at 17 years old when exploring ‘A’ level exam subject options and so started to academically learn about dance, choreographers, creating your own choreography and writing/reading dance notation. I also loved reading scholarly dance journals around that time, to learn about various aspects of dance, including biomechanics and injury prevention for dancers. Prior to this, I’d only focused on
